We enjoyed walking the Calgary Home Show yesterday. We saw some familiar faces that we haven’t seen in awhile, as well as met quite a few new faces.

From all accounts, the attendance at the show was very good Saturday and Sunday with many interested clients itching to build or renovate something.

Of course, you always buy a Sweepa or a hotel quality Bamboo pillow as well. I am always amazed at how many people buy Sweepa brooms.

There were many renovators and landscapers there looking to assist you in your Spring projects!

We look forward to working with everyone moving forward in 2016.

Some of the Exhibitors that we saw either new products or are looking forward to doing some additional research on were:

Garage door depot.
Overhead Doors

Just want to update on the new modern style doors

Lift masters.
Ascension Elevators

Residential elevators, for those who are interested, run from $25,000 to about $40,000 generally for normal application. It all depends on the level of manual versus automatic features, as well as number of floors. You can always glitz up those elevator finishes. I think that more clients on more expensive two-story designs should consider at least a rough-in for an elevator for down the road. This would be a good allowance in case there are ever going to be health mobililty issues that arise. No one ever expects them until it happens.

Berdick windows and doors
Westech windows and doors
Milgard windows and doors
Lumon

There are a few companies out there that I do not know much about through my years in the industry. Either new companies or established ones that never used to be in our market in the past.

Many Europeans look for their style windows whereby you can reverse the outside to the inside to clean. Only a few companies out there present a product like this.

There are also companies pushing the boundaries on size and design. Corner glass windows and curved track sliding doors come to mind. We saw some amazing door and window products last January at the Lass Vegas National Home Builder Show. We do have to keep in mind that we live in Canada, not California, and some things are not easily workable in our climate, or, in some cases, possible at all.

Scavolini cabinets

With the advent of more and more transitional or contemporary home styles, modern European kitchen cabinets continue to come onto the North American scene.

Reliant heating.
Air force.
Action furnace
Climate Change

These companies supply and install our residential mechanical systems. There are substantially more choices in market now for how to heat our homes or to supply hot water. Tankless heat-on-demand systems, radiant floor heating, geothermal, solar, combination boiler furnace systems…its an ever-changing world out there

I need to update my knowledge on even the basic forced air supply options. There is such a range of products today.

Blade ceramic heaters

These guys are from Turkey. Time to check them and a few others out for garage of patio heat.

Ecostone
Kodiak Mountain Stone (Creative Mines)bone-craft-urban-ledge1

There are some new stone producers, both real stone and manufactured, out there.

Ecoraster

Semi-premeable ground hardscaping product that gets us away from concrete parking and driveways. The city is always asking us to provide options. Generally clients are uninformed or unfamiliar with these types of products.

First Class Fencing

These guys have their ducks in a row regarding ALL fencing types – Commercial, residential, agricultural.

There were not many of new products at the show, but there were some that bear further education.
